We are looking for interested PhD students and postdocs who want to join our research group! We take an interdisciplinary approach, combining empirical ecology and field work with global modelling of the terrestrial biosphere and climate change. If you are interested in terrestrial ecosystem ecology, carbon and nitrogen cycling, global change, boreal forests, field research, and/or ecological modelling please reach out ([email protected])!
We have positions for PhD students who are interested in the following research:
Competitive postdoctoral fellowship funding opportunities are available. Please see the following list: https://www.dal.ca/faculty/gradstudies/postdoctoral-fellows.html. In particular, the application for the NSERC Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship is due in July and the application for the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship is due in early October.
We have positions for PhD students who are interested in the following research:
- Improving how nitrogen and carbon cycling are represented in the Canadian Land Surface Scheme Including Biogeochemical Cycles (CLASSIC), which is the terrestrial biosphere model component of the Canadian Earth System Model (CanESM) developed by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and which contributes to the climate change projections in the IPCC Assessment Reports. This work would focus on the pan-Canadian domain and how nitrogen limitation of carbon sequestration in Canadian boreal forests is influenced by global change.
- Understanding the influence of nitrogen limitation on simulated future trajectories of carbon sequestration as well as simulated future trajectories of nitrogen losses across the terrestrial biosphere models and Earth System Models that contribute to the IPCC Assessment Reports.
